Luckily, there are a few ways to become a morning runner… You just need to follow these rules!
Get yourself ready the night before
One of the easiest ways to motivate yourself in the morning is to get yourself ready for a morning run the night before. Make sure that it’s not going to be pouring down with rain, get your running trainers out of the cupboard, and lay out your workout clothes so that you just have to shove everything on without any hassle in the morning. This will make the whole process even easier and will leave yourself less time to break down in tears and talk yourself out of going for a run. When you’re ready to get going, make sure you warm up. This will make your initial run easier to do and will ensure that you don’t incur any injuries. The last thing you want is to go for one run and have to sit out for the next few weeks because of injury…
Find yourself the perfect running partner
A problem shared is a problem halved, right? So solve your running problem by finding the perfect running partner! If somebody else is relying on you to wake up and tear yourself out of bed, you will be more likely to do it because you don’t want to let them down. Finding someone to run with could also spark the competitive side within you. You may want to get up extra early to prove you can, and you might want to run for longer to prove that you’re better than them. Just be careful you don’t get too competitive and trip your running partner up. That might not do wonders for your friendship.
Understand that it’s a slow process
If you’re not used to waking up early, getting up at the crack of dawn to go for a run can be just as uninviting as eating a bowl of cold porridge – and it’s not something that will have you jumping out of bed. Because of this, it’s important to understand that becoming a morning runner is a process. There may be some days where you think that you can’t do it, but as soon as you force yourself out of bed and get into your stride, the whole thing will become easier over time. You just have to get over that initial hurdle to reach your goal. In this case, the hurdle is your bed.
Keep yourself warm
Want to know what’s worse than forcing yourself out of bed at 5 am? Forcing yourself out of bed at 5 am in the freezing cold! As soon as you step out of your comforter, it can be so easy to take yourself back into bed and warm your tootsies up – but that’s not going to help you become a morning runner. Instead, you need to ensure that you keep yourself warm when you wake yourself up. Some people do this by wearing their running clothes to bed the night before! Find a way that works for you.
